Homecoming weekend has a long and colorful history, dating back to 1910. We can thank the athletic director at the University of Missouri for his vision. He decided to invite past alumni "back home" to watch the football game against rival University of Kansas, perhaps to fill the stands. Little did he know that over 10,000 past students would flock back to the event, which also included speeches, rallies and a parade.
Over the years, more events have been added to individual school's traditions, although most weekend still revolve around a football game.Common activities include spirit rallies, tailgating parties, the crowning of the Homecoming Court, and of course - the homecoming dance. If you are attending your own formal dance and need flowers, Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist is here to design the perfect corsage and boutonniere for the event. Of all the seasonal flowers, the summer hydrangea may be one of the least appreciated. Not because its beautiful colors and lush, generous flowers are not recognized - but because they have largely been relegated to playing a supporting role in many floral arrangements. Still, this popular summer flower, which blooms between late spring and early fall, is deserving of our attention and our July spotlight! This month, how about bringing home a huge bouquet of hydrangea? Their ethereal ambiance and refreshing palettes make them the perfect choice for mid-summer floral arrangements. For over 240 years, July 4th has been a day set apart to celebrate the unique freedoms that we have come to appreciate in the United States. But its beginnings were a little fuzzy - from John Adams publicly declaring that July 2nd was Independence Day, to the majority of the founding fathers not signing the Declaration of Independence until August 2nd. Still, the date written on the original document prevailed, and a nation was born.
Did You Know? John Hancock was one of only two members of Congress who signed on July 4th - which explains his favored position on the document. Read More about Red, White & Blue Flowers for Independence Day »

We live busy lives, and they seem to get busier every day. As we rush through weeks and months, from errand to errand, sometimes we fail to really notice the incredible people all around us. Thankfully, May gives us two opportunities to celebrate the sometimes humble and quiet - yet heroic - efforts of two special professionals in our midst. Although they aren't thanked or recognized as much as they deserve, this month sets aside a full week to give them praise. Here at Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist, we love our community - and we appreciate our teachers and nurses! It would be our privilege to partner with you to honor them this May, with special gifts and floral arrangements guaranteed to express your gratitude in beautiful style.
