On November 11, our community will gather to honor its U.S. military veterans, as we have done in some form or another since 1919. Originally conceived as "Armistice Day" and intended to honor the end of WWI the year before, November 11 has evolved over the years to become the Veterans Day we celebrate now.
At Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist, we want to put the emphasis on "celebrate." Veterans Day isn't a somber occasion; instead, it's poignant and proud. We put on parades and parties, or have observances and salutes that feel more triumphant and inspiring rather than subdued. And we believe that the flowers we give as gifts to our favorite vets should keep the same spirit. Read More about Fresh Flowers for Veterans Day »

Some symbols of Fall are so ingrained in our imagination that we can't remember how or why they came to be intertwined with the season. The chrysanthemum, for instance. Originally an ancient Chinese flowering herb, this fluffy, golden plant is ubiquitous on front steps and in doorways this time of year, owing to the fact that it actually prefers our cooler, shorter days. And the cornucopia. Though it has come to symbolize the abundance of the harvest, it was once just a horn Zeus wrested away from a she-goat in Greek mythology. And yet here these old, old emblems are, appearing in and around our homes announcing the season.
We at Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist love to see our friends and neighbors designing Fall with mums, but we think we've got one better for you. Why not blend two beloved symbols of Fall into one dazzling piece? Read More about Designing Fall with Mums »

Just in case you thought that random acts of kindness were a contemporary phenomenon, Sweetest Day comes around to remind you that people have been awesome and compassionate for a long time!
Sweetest Day was the idea of Herbert Kingston, a line worker in a Cleveland candy company in the early 1920's. Herbert thought that it would be a kind gesture to give out boxes of chocolate at orphanages and nursing homes. He ran his idea up the corporate ladder, and the powers-that-be agreed to the plan. The media got a hold of the story, and the sentiment of doing nice things for the underprivileged began to grow. In 1927, New York State declared Sweetest Week, and nearly 100 years later, many regions of the United States still celebrate the holiday. However, now the day has grown to include any sweet gesture that lifts someone's spirits. Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist loves partnering with you to brighten people's days, on this occasion and throughout the year. Read More about Sweetest Day an Opportunity for Kindness »

Homecoming weekend has a long and colorful history, dating back to 1910. We can thank the athletic director at the University of Missouri for his vision. He decided to invite past alumni "back home" to watch the football game against rival University of Kansas, perhaps to fill the stands. Little did he know that over 10,000 past students would flock back to the event, which also included speeches, rallies and a parade.
Over the years, more events have been added to individual school's traditions, although most weekend still revolve around a football game.Common activities include spirit rallies, tailgating parties, the crowning of the Homecoming Court, and of course - the homecoming dance. If you are attending your own formal dance and need flowers, Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist is here to design the perfect corsage and boutonniere for the event. Surely, two of the most satisfying experiences in life must be those of being a grandchild or a grandparent.
~Donald A. Norberg
When Marian McQuade sent the draft of a bill to Congress, asking for the institution of National Grandparents Day, she had a distinct vision as to what the purpose of the day should be. The West Virginia mother of 15 (and grandmother to many more) wanted a time set aside to honor traditions and family history as communicated by the older generations. She also felt it was an effective way to encourage families to gather often to share and learn from each other. In 1978, Congress agreed, and the first Sunday after Labor Day was designated. This year, Grandparents Day falls on September 10. If you are looking for beautiful flowers and plants to honor these special people, look no further than Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist.
