Homecoming weekend has a long and colorful history, dating back to 1910. We can thank the athletic director at the University of Missouri for his vision. He decided to invite past alumni "back home" to watch the football game against rival University of Kansas, perhaps to fill the stands. Little did he know that over 10,000 past students would flock back to the event, which also included speeches, rallies and a parade.
Over the years, more events have been added to individual school's traditions, although most weekend still revolve around a football game.Common activities include spirit rallies, tailgating parties, the crowning of the Homecoming Court, and of course - the homecoming dance. If you are attending your own formal dance and need flowers, Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist is here to design the perfect corsage and boutonniere for the event.
