Floral Design Day is a time set aside to recognize the talented artists who work in our industry. While anyone can simply place flowers in a container, professional floral designers work with the traditional concepts of art and design – color, texture, ratio, contrast, line and more. For those with a trained eye, the creation of a stunning floral arrangement is nothing less than an artistic endeavor. Here at Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist, we are proud of the skilled experts who help us to make Glendora, Whittier, and Rowland Heights a little more beautiful every day.
Here are just a few of the many artistic considerations that floral designers consider when imagining a new design:
The most important component of floral design is color. Floral designers generally work within four basic color schemes. Monochromatic displays varying intensities of the same color, while complementary uses two colors that are directly opposite each other on the color wheel, such as green and pink for high contrast. A third color palette utilizes three adjacent colors from the wheel. Triadic color schemes require the most skill to effectively design, employing three colors equidistant from each other on the wheel.
Shape indicates the overall structure of the arrangement, which is determined primarily by its style. Floral arrangements can be vertical or horizontal, as well as round or triangular. The flowers used will fill in the shape, and the designer will take care that they are not too monotonous, nor too chaotic.
Texture and depth allow differences between rough and smooth, coarse and fine, soft and hard, These contrasting details provide interest in a design. Space when planned correctly, helps to isolate its features and provides visual resting places. A creative use of space will also allow for the designer to create a sense of fluidity and movement.
It quickly becomes apparent that there is more to designing flowers than meets the eye – in fact, we know our designers are artists! For a truly unique bouquet or arrangement that was created by a professional, look no further than Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist.
