The concept of flowers on tables dates back to antiquity, so when you’re crowning your Thanksgiving table with a floral centerpiece this year, you’re participating in a ritual that’s been around since 2,500 BCE. Talk about a tradition!
At Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist, we want to celebrate the classic centerpiece arrangement, the one filled with blooms in rustic, autumn hues. The ones lush with fall leaves, greens and berries and accompanied by candles. There’s nothing better than a lavish table design that communicates warmth and symbolizes the abundance of the season.
Before committing to a centerpiece, take stock of your dining situation. If you can, place table settings and serve ware in a Thanksgiving “dress rehearsal” several days ahead of time just to see how you’ll make it all fit, and what kind of centerpiece you can work in. Once you know how much space you have, keep in mind that centerpieces need to be fairly low so as not to block guests from seeing and talking to each other across the table. They should be visually compelling, but not distracting. Take our Mayflower Centerpiece as an example.
This lush centerpiece gives that sense of plenty and remains the perfect scale for conversation and connecting. The taper candles add some height (and warmth) to the overall design. And the flowers run the full fall spectrum, making this a definite conversation piece.
In the case of our Sunflower Centerpiece, the candle is wreathed by flowers and secured in a hurricane glass.
While this design is traditional and would certainly work on a more formal table, the mums and sunflowers keep the affect relatable.
Floral centerpieces introduce warmth and life to your Thanksgiving table. We hope to bring both to you through our flowers this season.
