For over 240 years, July 4th has been a day set apart to celebrate the unique freedoms that we have come to appreciate in the United States. But its beginnings were a little fuzzy - from John Adams publicly declaring that July 2nd was Independence Day, to the majority of the founding fathers not signing the Declaration of Independence until August 2nd. Still, the date written on the original document prevailed, and a nation was born.
